Saturday, November 14, 2009
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The SHARE (Self-Help and Resource Exchange) Food Program is a nonprofit organization serving a regional network of community organizations engaged in food distribution, education, and advocacy.
SHARE makes wholesome foods affordable for thousands of people throughout Philadelphia. In exchange for two hours of volunteer time, community members can purchase food at discounted prices. SHARE Food packages offer meats, fresh fruits and vegetables and grocery items for individuals and families.

Last year SHARE distributed 20,000 holiday dinner kits. This year SHARE has experienced increased demand and anticipates that they will need to prepare and distribute 30 – 40,000 holiday meals. To accomplish this feat, SHARE NEEDS YOU!
During our November 14th project, volunteers will have the opportunity to help SHARE Food package their Thanksgiving holiday meals by completing the following tasks:
· Unpacking boxes of food to prepare for kit assembly
· Assembling dry dinner kits
· Assembling frozen dinner kits
· Breaking down boxes
· Assisting SHARE staff organize assembled kits in warehouse
We ask that all volunteers wear comfortable and WARM clothing as the warehouse is colder in the fall and winter months. Volunteers are encouraged to bring hats and gloves to ensure comfort.
Volunteers are welcome to bring non-perishable food donations to the project, if they would also like to donate food items to the SHARE Food Program.
If you would like to volunteer, please RSVP in one of three ways:
1. By reserving a space through this invitation
2. Via email to mlk365@globalcitizen.us.com please put SHARE Food in the subject line.
3. Call 215-665-2655 to reserve a space.

Global Citizen & MLK365
Global Citizen is non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement, community volunteering, civic responsibility and sustained active citizenship among diverse groups, particularly young people.
Our issues of focus include poverty, homelessness, at-risk youth, education, public health, digital inclusion, energy and the environment. Global Citizen is a weaver of community webs, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. We work to build diverse partnerships through volunteer service, thus realizing how much more we have in common than our differences.
Global Citizen was founded by Todd Bernstein, who helped Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Harris Wofford and Atlanta Congressman John Lewis create the National Martin Luther King Day of Service in 1994. Bernstein started the first local King Day of Service in Philadelphia in 1996.
MLK365 is a year-round program that promotes sustainable civic engagement and volunteer opportunities.
The goal of MLK365 is to ensure that Dr. King's legacy and principles are embraced throughout the entire year. The initiative emphasizes Dr. King's legacy of nonviolence, social justice, equality and excellence.
MLK365 serves as a year-round clearing house for continuing service opportunities, as well as supporting and designing volunteer programs for its partners.
